Ben Franklin was postmaster of Philadelphia in 1737 and later postmaster general of the colonies in 1775, so obviously, his favorite coin was the Spanish Pistareen, because it cost one Pistareen to mail a letter! In fact, these coins were the workhorse coins for small transactions in the colonies. They were used to get a haircut, a shave, or to get your shoes fixed. We located a small collection of these rarely seen coins so you can now add a set of three American colonial silver coins to your collection. You get a quarter, half, and one Pistareen coin in circulated condition dated 1721—1777 (date is our choice).
