At the request of Teddy Roosevelt, Augustus St. Gaudens designed his High
Relief $20 Gold Piece in 1907. But due to the practical considerations of
minting coins for circulation, the coin was never produced the way he
designed it. Now, over 100 years later the Mint is striking the 2009 $20
Saint in High Relief and the results are spectacular. This modern version is
struck in 99.99% fine gold and contains one full troy ounce of gold. If you
wanted to buy the 1907 version in MS68 it has sold for $300,000 or more.
Today's 2009 High Relief Saint Gauden's is available for a fraction of the
price--and you'll agree, it's much more impressive. The coin of the year
without a doubt!
