The Gold Proof Sovereign is one of the most cherished coins in the world. Struck in fine 22K gold, these 2007 Gold Proof Sovereigns bear one of history’s most powerful numismatic designs. First used on the gold sovereigns of George III, Benedetto Pistrucci’s dramatic portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon is a classic rendering of a subject which has inspired and fascinated artists and sculptors for centuries.

The 2007 Sovereign collection is a very special issue, for this year the Royal Mint is using the latest technology — joined with traditional engraving skills — to enhance the relief of the coin’s design. The Royal Mint scanned the original hand-engraved design into a computer and cut a large-scale copy of it in plaster for the model. Details were then hand-worked to ensure that a faithful rendering of the design was achieved. Through this tedious process, the intricate details were restored so that the sovereign now stands as a sculptured form in a way the Pistrucci himself would have wanted.

The 2007 Gold Proof Sovereign features Pistrucci’s classic St. George and the dragon design and has been minted to the exact weight and diameter of the first modern sovereign in 1817. This gleaming gold Proof was struck in 22K gold and issued with a low mintage of 10,000 coins worldwide. Each Proof is displayed in a luxurious black velour presentation case accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

2007 Gold Proof Half Sovereign
Like the sovereign, the 2007 Gold Proof Half Sovereign bears the same timeless image of St. George and the dragon. It is struck in 22K gold by the master craftsman at the Royal Mint, and is limited to just 5,000 coins worldwide. Each Proof is displayed in a luxurious red velour presentation case accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
