As we move ever closer to the greatest sporting event on earth, we are pleased to present the Royal Mint's official Countdown to London Commemorative series. Four series of gold, silver, silver piedfort and cupro—nickel coins are being minted to "Countdown" to the start of the games in 2012. The coins feature 3—2—1—0 as a central theme, one numeral for each year, and for each of the four series. The coins in each series are:

£5 Gold Proof, struck in 22 karat gold. Each weighs 39.94 grams with a very low mintage of only 3,000 proofs

£5 Silver Proof, struck in 28.28 grams of 92.5% sterling silver with a low mintage of only 30,000 proofs

£5 Silver "Double Thick" Piedfort Proof, struck in 56.56 grams of sterling silver with a very low mintage of only 4,000 proofs

£5 Cupro—nickel proof, with a mintage of 250,000 proofs

A four—coin gold, silver, silver piedfort and cupro—nickel proof set is to be issued every year, one set for each year. The countdown number "2" proofs are the second set in the series. This design features the number 2 woven together with a pair of runners racing to the finish line. The ticking clock element is repeated to the right. It's advanced further toward the finish line on this second design. The stylized Olympic Stadium surrounds the central feature, and the London 2012 Color logo also appears on the coins in the second countdown set. We are pleased to present the silver, silver piedfort and gold coin set. Each of the three coins is graded near—perfect PF69 by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). The three coins come in a spectacular official Royal Mint presentation case. The cupro—nickel coin comes in an official Royal Mint pack.
