Because of an increased demand for coinage during World War II in Australia, the Perth Mint geared up to produce the half pennies and Pennies needed to keep the economy moving. This set commemorates the era from the beginning of World War II to the end of the pre-decimal period under Queen Elizabeth II. Each set contains a half penny and penny from the reign of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II—also included is a Ram’s Head Shilling from 1946—the only year this denomination was ever struck at Perth!
