The Morgan Silver Dollar was authorized to be minted starting in 1878. The San Francisco Mint was the closest large mint to the massive amounts of silver coming from the Comstock Lode in Nevada. They geared up to produce the new Silver Dollar. The 1878—S first—year coin has a flat—breasted Eagle on the reverse, and starting in 1879, the Morgans have a round-breasted eagle. We've assembled a set of the first five years of coins from San Francisco in Brilliant uncirculated condition. Each coin has some of the best detail ever achieved in Morgan Dollar production, giving this set the crisp eye appeal unmatched in Silver Dollars from the other mints. With over 100 million Morgans melted during WW I and WW II, assembling this set today is not an easy task. We've done the work for you. You get the 1878—S, 1879—S, 1880—S, 1881—S and 1882—S Morgans and you save money over what these coins are sold for elsewhere!
