107-108 A.D. Roman Bronze Trajan Medallion NGC XF
Unique Ancient Medallion of Trajan
Struck in Alexandria, Egypt, this ancient bronze drachm coin is considered by experts to be a medallion due to its hefty 38 mm size, as well as its rarity. These coins were minted in very small quantities and, like the Presidential Medals of today, were given out by Emperors as special gifts. To receive one was a great honor – and to add this Bronze Medallion of Emperor Trajan to your collection is doubly so, as it’s apparently the only one known to exist!
What makes this piece even more incredible is its history. It has traveled from famous collection to famous collection – from the Giovanni Dattari Collection to Piero Beretta to Renzo Canavesi to Giovanni Maria Staffieri. And now it can be a part of your collection, placing you among some of the top names in the history of collecting.
The life of Emperor Trajan (53-117) is a real rags-to-riches story. He rose from a common non-patrician family to presiding over the largest expansion in Roman history. A successful general in the Roman army, Trajan was adopted by the Emperor Nerva. When Nerva died in 98, Trajan was accepted by both the army and the senate and he would until his death in 117. He is remembered as being a wise and just emperor and a morally upstanding man. The quintessential image of a Roman Emperor, Trajan is hailed as one of the “Five Good Emperors” who presided during the height of the Roman Empire from 96-180.
Add this coin to your collection and you too will rise up to a position highly respected among your peers! This incredible piece comes certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as being in Extremely Fine (XF) with a Strike 5/5, a Surface 3/5 and a “Fine Style” designation.
