In 1963, President John F. Kennedy signed Executive Order 1110, slowly halting the production of $1 Silver Certificates. That means the 1957 Series was the final year of the $1 Silver Certificates. Kennedy's decision was prompted by the fact that the government was expecting a shortage of silver bullion. In addition to the last-ever nature of these certificates, they are also significant for being the first to feature the motto "In God We Trust," the result of a law signed by President Eisenhower in 1955.
