1735-1771 Spanish Pillar 8 Reales F-VF
What Colonials Stashed in their Cache
When America was young, these Silver 8 Reales coins circulated extensively. In fact, they were granted legal-tender status until 1857 - that's 65 years after the U.S. Mint was established! These might have circulated in the colonies before and during the Revolutionary War. Aside from adopting the fractional divisions of the 8 Reales, the American symbol for dollar ($) was inspired by the scrollwork around the columns on the reverse. Each coin is over 240 years old and in Fine to Very Fine (F-VF) condition; your coin was minted in Mexico, Peru or Bolivia (mints our choice) between 1735-1771. Don't wait to start your own stash of these remarkable coins. Our inventory won't last! Dates vary.
