1772-1825 Spain 1 Reales Silver VG
America's First Silver Dime
Before the United States Mint started producing coins, Americans used a wide variety of coins from around the world. The best-known and most widely-used of the early coins were the Silver Reales struck by Spain. The S-shaped scrolls of ribbon that encircle the pillars on the Reales Silver coins actually served as the inspiration for our dollar sign! This One Reale Silver "bit" was the model for our silver dime. It was struck between 1772 and 1825 and is in Very Good to Fine (VG-F) condition. Dates vary. Each comes with a certificate of authenticity. Add to your cart now and you'll soon have a "bit" of history in your hands!
