1811-A France 20 Francs Gold Napoleon I NGC AU53 Rive d’Or Hoard
Real Napoleon Gold From the Rive d’Or Hoard
What an incredible find! Napoleon Bonaparte 20 Francs are extremely difficult to come by today--especially in such wonderful condition.
Each of these 20 Francs coins contains .1867 ounces of gold and comes graded as About Uncirculated-53 (AU53) condition by NGC, certified as coming from the famous Rive d’Or Hoard™. This particular coin was struck at The Paris Mint and displays the date of 1811--a year in which France was engaged in the Napoleonic Wars, which led to Napoleon’s ill-fated march on Russia in 1812. Not the best years for Napoleon, but a great opportunity for your collection!
When Napoleon came to power, he had as many gold coins rounded up as he could and had them melted down and replaced with new ones bearing his likeness. In his mind, any physical image of the nation’s former rulers were a threat to his own rule. Of course, when Napoleon was driven out of France, the same thing happened to his own coinage--leading modern collectors to go on intense searches to find coins just like this one!
