1875 2.5 Dollar Liberty Gilt Pattern NGC PF62 J-1434
One of Only Four, Rare 1875 Liberty Gilt Pattern is Struck in Copper
Struck as a pattern piece, this 1875 $2.50 Liberty piece is not gold, but rather gilt copper. Also known as Judd-1434, it is estimated that only four of these pieces were ever struck. As you can see, the detail is exactly the same as the Gold Liberties of the day, having been created using the same die used to strike the actual $2.50 Gold Liberty. Unlike its gold counterpart, however, this piece features a rotated Eagle reverse, struck slightly askew compared to its matching Liberty obverse.
This is the only coin of its type graded by NGC, and thus is the finest known in stunning Proof-62 (PF62) condition. That’s right -- just one of these gilt copper coins exists certified by NGC. Just one collector will get to call it their very own and have a truly incredible piece of American numismatic history. Become that collector today and secure this fascinating piece for your collection!
