1879 Seated Liberty Dime NGC MS66 PL
Gorgeous Rare Proof-Like 1879 Seated Liberty Dime
Proof-Like coins are often those struck with newer or freshly polished dies, resulting in sharp strikes and blazing luster just this side of true Proof condition. They are some of the finest of their mintage and can often be incredibly difficult to locate.
Take this 1879 Seated Liberty Dime for example. Struck more than 140 years ago, it still maintains an incredible amount of its original mint luster and has been certified graded and encapsulated by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as being in Gem Uncirculated Mint State-66 Proof-Like (MS66 PL) condition.
Proof-Like Seated Liberty Dimes like this are rarely ever seen, a fact backed up by coin population reports: the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) has no Proof-Like Seated Liberty Dimes graded, and only 38 non-Proof-Like coins graded higher. NGC has a total of just 105 Proof-Like coins for the entire series that was issued from 1837 to 1891, with just 8 coins graded higher. That’s a crazy low number! Meanwhile, the Smithsonian® has one of these coins, but theirs is only in Very Fine (VF) condition.
This coin comes from a very low mintage of just 14,000 coins and is sure to be a star in your collection – that is if you’re lucky enough to secure it before someone else does. With only one coin available, you’ll have to act fast if you want this gem for your own!
- POPULAR, LONG-RUNNING DESIGN – The Seated Liberty Dime was designed by Christian Gobrecht, the 3rd Chief Engraver at the United States Mint. It depicts a goddess-like Lady Liberty seated upon a rock holding a Liberty pole topped by a Phrygian Cap of freedom. Gobrecht’s Seated Liberty Dimes were struck for 55 years from 1837 to 1891.
- STRUCK IN FINE SILVER – Each 1879-dated Seated Liberty Dime was struck in 2.5 grams of 90% fine silver and measure 17.9 mm in diameter.
- UNITED STATES LEGAL TENDER – The Liberty Dime was 10 cents legal tender and circulated throughout the United States before, during and after the Civil War.
- HIGH-GRADE, PROOF-LIKE CONDITION – This 1879 Seated Liberty Dime has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as being in Gem Uncirculated Mint State-66 Proof-Like (MS66 PL) condition.
- LOW MINTAGE – Just 14,000 of these coins were ever struck – and very few have attained a grade this high.
This 1879 Seated Liberty Dime is an exceptionally rare piece. Just one coin is currently available, however, so add it to your collection now while you still can!
