One of the Rarest Pieces in American Numismatics!

In 1880, the Philadelphia Mint was working on creating a four-dollar gold coin. Several options were struck as patterns, including this amazing piece we're offering you today. This $4, or "One Stella," pattern proof features Lady Liberty on the obverse, with her hair flowing down to her shoulders. Along the edge of the obverse is a specific detailing of the intended 90% gold coin’s gold, silver and copper contents. These patterns, however, were struck in copper and gilded in gold.

The reverse is interesting in that it provides not one, but three versions of its denomination, stating that it is "ONE STELLA," "400 CENTS" and "FOUR DOL." Also known as Judd-1658a, this coin has been graded by PCGS as Proof-63 (PR63) condition. Though the gold strikes of these patterns traditionally command higher prices, the copper gilt variety are considered to be more rare. Only about a dozen of these copper variants are known to exist! So, if you're a Stella enthusiast or a historic coin collector of any kind, grab this rare coin now!
