3pc 1881-1887 P, S, O-Mint Morgan Dollar Collection NGC MS63

This collection contains an 1881-S, 1884-O and 1887-P Morgan dollars struck at three of the four mints that produced the series during the 19th Century; Philadelphia, New Orleans and San Francisco. Each coin comes certified and encapsulated by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and will be graded in MS63 Gem Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The collection ships in a handsome royal blue case along with an informative story booklet/checklist on the Morgan silver dollar series, as well as a 120-page book on Morgan Silver Dollars, titled Morgan Dollar, Legendary Coins and the Making of the Modern Market, authored by Miles Standish.

The collection features three Morgan dollars: 1881-S, 1884-O and 1887-P. Each coin features a different mintmark and was struck during the heyday of the Comstock Lode over 100 years ago.

The collection features coins from the three primary U.S. mints that struck the Morgan series during the 19th Century; Philadelphia, New Orleans and San Francisco. (Carson City also struck the Morgan series in the 1800s, but it accounted for less than 2% of the total coins struck. A CC-Mint Morgan is not included in this set.)

Even though there were hundreds of millions of Morgan Silver Dollars struck between 1878 and 1921, hundreds of millions of them have been melted, and many more have been worn down in circulation. The Pittman Act of 1918 was enacted by the U.S. Government, and 270 million Morgan Silver Dollars - nearly half of the entire mintage - met their fate in the melting pots. This fact makes it difficult to assemble sets like this, especially in higher grades such as Gem MS64.
