1881-CC Morgan Silver Dollar BU GSA
Bring Home Your Own GSA-Encased 1881 Carson City Morgan!
We've discovered a great prize for your silver dollar collection! Our buyers have found Morgan Silver Dollars from 1880, struck at the Carson City Mint and encapsulated by the Government Services Administration (GSA) in a hard plastic holder for protection. Each of these Morgans is in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition.
These coins were among those discovered in Treasury vaults after being forgotten about for decades. In particular, this 1881 Carson City Morgan is among those from the famous "Treasury Hoard" that were transferred to the GSA, where they were packaged and sold during several auctions in the 1970s. Since then many, if not most, of these coins were broken out of their original GSA holders. Those remaining in the holders are prized by historic-minded (not to mention just plain savvy) collectors.
Only 296,000 silver dollars were struck at Carson City in 1881, making the date the second lowest mintage of all the Carson City dollars. And even though a number were found in the hoard, they will always be one on the more elusive dates in the Morgan Silver Dollar series.
