1885-S Morgan Silver Dollar NGC AU53 - Great Montana Collection
1885 San Francisco Mint Morgan Silver Dollar from the Great Montana Collection
In 1885, the fabled San Francisco Mint struck a small mintage of Morgan Silver Dollars - less than 1.5 million coins. That year the Philadelphia Mint struck nearly 18 million Silver Dollars. In addition, most of the 1885-S mintage was released into circulation where they wore down in commerce. That makes this 1885-S example graded About Uncirculated-53 (AU53) by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) scarce and desirable.
Adding to its appeal is the fact that it's from the Great Montana Collection, a massive Silver Dollar Hoard accumulated starting in the 1950s. Some of the biggest Morgan Silver Dollar hoards, such as the LaVere Redfield and Binion hoards, date back 10 to 40 years ago. The last big Silver Dollar Hoard we offered was the McClaren Hoard, and that dates back to 6 years ago already! Large Morgan Silver Dollar hoards just don't come around anymore. Will this be the last one?
Don't wait to find out. Secure this Morgan today!
