1891-P Silver Seated Liberty Quarter NGC MS65 PL
Rare Proof-Like 1891-P Seated Liberty – Second Finest Known!
Just look at that phenomenal frost! This coin is absolutely spectacular! Struck as part of a mintage of nearly four million coins (3,920,000 to be exact), this is undoubtedly one of the best of the bunch, and someone obviously knew it, stashing it away for future generations.
The coin is so fabulous that not only has it been certified and graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as being in Gem Uncirculated Mint State-65 (MS65) condition, but NGC also added a special Proof-Like (PL) designation to it as well! That means that even though this coin wasn't struck as a proof, its brilliant and reflective finish has earned it this special designation. In fact, this is one of only eight Proof-Like coins graded by NGC, with only one PL coin grading higher. What’s more, NGC has graded just 67 Proof-Like coins for the entire Seated Liberty Quarter series that ran from 1838 to 1891! The Smithsonian® collection currently holds this date and mint mark in its coin collection – and its specimen grades in only Extremely Fine (XF) condition!
Proof-Like coins like this are rarely seen, and this is the second finest known of its kind. As you can see by the number graded, this coin will become the star of any collection.
- SECOND-FINEST SPECIMEN KNOWN – This 1891-P Seated Liberty Silver Quarter has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as being in Gem Uncirculated Mint State-65 Proof-Like (MS64 PL) condition, making it the second-finest known proof-like specimen for this date and mintmark in existence!
- CLASSIC EARLY U.S. MINT DESIGN – The Seated Liberty is one of the classic designs of the 19th century. Originally created by Mint Engraver Christian Gobrecht, the same design of Lady Liberty seated with her right hand on a shield and her left hand grasping a staff topped by a Phrygian cap was used on the half-dime, dime, quarter, half-dollar and dollar coins of the 19th century.
- STRUCK IN FINE SILVER – Each Seated Liberty Silver Quarter was struck in 6.25 grams 90% silver and measures 24.3 mm in diameter.
- SCARCE COINS, LIMITED MINTAGES – The combination of this relative low mintage of just 3,920,000 with age and heavy use means finding these coins today in pleasing grades such as this can be difficult, let alone one that is hailed as the second-finest specimen known to exist!
This 1891-P Silver Seated Liberty Quarter is graded by NGC in Gem Uncirculated Mint State-65 Proof-Like (MS62 PL) condition making it the second-finest known coin of this date and mintmark in existence. It’s a true treasure for any serious collector. Reserve it for your collection today!
