Vintage Silver Barber Half-Dollars

More than a century ago, the half dollar that lined people’s pockets was the Barber Half Dollar. Struck from 1892 to 1915, the 90% silver Barber Half Dollar is a classic American design. Featuring Liberty with a triple headdress consisting of a cap, a laurel wreath, and a tiny coronet inscribed with her name, the Barber Half Dollar gains its name from designer Charles E. Barber, the United States Mint’s 6th Chief Engraver from 1880 to 1917. Barber is one of the most famous and prolific coin designers in U.S. Mint history, having designed a full range of circulating coinage in his day.

These Barbers Suffered From Depression!

The Barber Half-Dollars we have here are a great find. The first Barber Half-Dollar was struck in 1892. The very next year, the country sank into a major depression. It didn’t end until the United States entered World War I one year after the last Barber was minted. The result? Nearly all Barber Half-Dollars were spent over and over again, wearing down each time. Very few were saved. That’s why it’s so hard to find Barbers in nice condition today. Now you can get one of these popular coins that was struck at the fabled San Francisco Mint in nice collector grade Good (G) condition! Click one to your cart today! Date our choice. Don’t wait on this because our limited supply will not last long!
