Vintage Silver Barber Dimes

More than 100 years ago, it wasn’t the Roosevelt Dime but the Barber Dime that folks had rattling around in their pockets and coin purses. Struck in highly pure 90% fine silver, these coins were designed by Charles Barber, then-Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. Other designs had been submitted—more than 300, in fact—but Barber, as part of a panel of judges, rejected them all in favor of designing the coin himself. The coin features a bust of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap on the obverse, with an agricultural wreath and the words “ONE DIME” on the reverse.

These Barbers Suffered From Depression!

The Barber Dimes we have here are a great find. The first Barber Dime was struck in 1892. The very next year, the country sank into a major depression. It didn’t end until the United States entered World War I one year after the last Barber was minted. The result? Nearly all Barber Dimes were spent over and over again, wearing down each time. Very few were saved. That’s why it’s so hard to find Barbers in nice condition today. Now you can get one of these popular coins that was struck at the fabled San Francisco Mint in nice collector grade Good (G) condition! Click one to your cart today! Date our choice. Don’t wait on this because our limited supply will not last long!

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • STRUCK IN GLEAMING SILVER – Barber Dimes were struck in 2.5 grams of highly pure 90% fine silver and measure 17.9 mm in diameter.
  • LEGAL TENDER – These coins were 10 cents legal tender in the United States at a time when a dime could have purchased a loaf of bread or a quart of milk.
