Big-Time Scarcity: 1903-O Morgan Silver Dollars that Escaped Pittman's Melting Pots

In 1903, 4.45 million Morgan Silver Dollars were struck at the fabled New Orleans Mint. Just 15 years later, Congress passed the Pittman Act, calling for the melting of hundreds of millions of these hefty silver coins. This may be one of the reasons why, for such a long time, it was so difficult to hunt down one of these 1903-O Morgans.

In fact, the scarcity of this coin was such that in 1961 the Red Book listed its value at $500 – the same as the coveted 1889-CC Morgan! Some were paying as much as $1,500 for one of these coins – if they could even find them. So where were they all hiding? As it turns out, nearly the entire mintage was just sitting in the vaults of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, kept in a secret hoard until the 1960s when they were released as part of the famous Treasury Hoard.

That's why we're so excited to have secured a small cache of pre-hoard release Morgan Silver Dollars that survived the Pittman Act – and more than a century – in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. What's more they're among the last silver dollars struck at the fabled New Orleans Mint, the only U.S. Mint branch to be controlled by three different governmental bodies! It's the coveted 1903-O Morgan Silver Dollar graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as being in gleaming Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition. It will also come encapsulated in an acrylic holder with an exclusive Pittman Act label

The storied Morgan Silver Dollar is perhaps the most coveted silver dollar in the world – and the 1903-O Morgan was once one of the most sought-after coin ever struck in the series. Don't miss out! Secure your key-date and mint mark Morgan now before it fades away forever!

  • AMERICA'S MOST POPULAR COIN – The Morgan Silver Dollar – so named for its designer, U.S. Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan – has stood the test of time. Struck from 1878-1904 and again in 1921, it was the coin of America's "Wild West" and jingled in the coin purses of gamblers, gunfighters, soldiers and dance hall girls.
  • BIG SILVER COINS – Struck in 26.73 grams of 90% silver, the Morgan Silver Dollar is a big coin 38.1 mm in diameter. When this coin was plunked down on a counter, its weight meant real money, pure and simple.
  • CLASSIC DESIGNS – Morgan's historic design depicts a profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle with outstretched wings. The model used for Liberty was Miss Anna Williams of Philadelphia, who Morgan declared to have the most perfect feminine profile he had ever seen.
  • FAMOUS "O" MINT MARK – The New Orleans Mint is famous for being the only American mint to be controlled by three different governing bodies during its lifetime. It was first governed by the United States of America, then the State of Louisiana when it seceded from the Union prior to the Civil War, and finally the Confederate States of America following the onset of the war. The United States regained possession in 1862. The famous "O" mint mark on the reverse of these coins is a living reminder of this historic mint's epic history.
  • FABULOUS NGC UNCIRCULATED CONDITION – During its lifetime, the New Orleans Mint earned a less-than-stellar reputation for producing coins of mediocre quality. That's why when coins such as these well-struck NGC-graded Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) coins are discovered they are highly prized by coin collectors.

The total amount of Morgan Silver Dollars has seen significant evaporation into both collections and the melting pot. Once our supply of these key-date 1903 O-Mint Morgans disappears, it might be gone for good. Don't wait any longer to secure yours now!
