The Clash Of The Titans

It was a battle reminiscent of the ancient Greek gods. In one corner, President Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt. In the other corner, Charles Barber, the 6th Chief Engraver at the United States Mint. Roosevelt wanted a new $10 gold piece that reflected the beauty and majesty of ancient gold coins. Barber wanted a workmanlike design that would be easy to strike. The men faced off, but just before Roosevelt left office, he ordered the mint to use his preferred design, a new one crafted by famed American sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens—and collectors have loved the coin ever since! It shows Miss Liberty in a Native American headdress on the obverse and a defiant American Eagle on the reverse.

Last-Ever Half-Ounce Gold Eagles Can Now Be Yours

Here’s your chance to add this spectacular $10 Gold Indian to your collection. Struck in nearly a half ounce of highly pure 90% fine gold, these Gold Indian coins are the last ever $10 gold coins struck by the Mint for circulation. Roosevelt proclaimed it to be one of the most beautiful coins minted since the days of ancient Greece and Rome, and when you hold this $10 Gold in your hands, there’s no doubt you’ll agree with our Rough Rider president. Now you can add this classic vintage Gold Eagle to your collection graded by either the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) or the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) in Uncirculated Mint State-62 (MS62) condition. Grading service our choice.

Because they’re also heavy, these $10 Gold Indians were easily damaged in transport—nobody really cared at the time. What’s more, many were confiscated and melted after the United States went off the gold standard in 1933. That makes finding one in condition like the ones we have here a real prize—and a great addition to your collection as an individual coin!
