1913-P Buffalo Nickel Type I NGC MS64
The Very First of the Beloved Buffalos!
The Buffalo Nickel is one of the most collected coins in America. Its proud Native American and bison iconography bring images of the Old West to mind every time you look at the coin. It's no wonder why this James Earle Fraser classic is also the inspiration for the U.S. Mint's more recent American Buffalo Gold Bullion coin series.
However, this coin's first year in production wasn't without a hiccup. Originally, the obverse of the 1913 Buffalo Nickel originally showed the buffalo on a mound with "FIVE CENTS" engraved on raised ground beneath him. However, shortly after the coins were released, the denomination began to show wear in circulation -- a big deal to say the least! So, the mint adjusted the placement of the engraving, placing it lower both on the coin and in relief. Collectors have since labeled the year's previous coins Type I and the new nickels Type II.
Fortunately for you, we've found a great selection of the original Type I nickels. That's right - the ones with the raised denomination! Even better, these Philadelphia-struck Buffalo Nickels have been graded Mint State-64 (MS64) by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and sonically sealed in clear acrylic, giving you the utmost in protection without sacrificing visibility.
Don't wait too long -- this collector-favorite series has fans all over the globe. Word about this find of highly-graded 1913 Type I Buffalo Nickels is sure to get around. Secure yours today!
