1916/2016 50 Cent Walking Liberty PCGS MS64/SP69 First Strike 2pc
First Year and 100th Anniversary Walking Liberty Set
While first years of any coin series are hotly collected, the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar rose to higher prominence with the passage of the centennial of its first release in 2016. Now you can collect both a first-year Silver Walking Liberty and the 99.99% pure gold Walking Liberty struck to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the original!
The Walking Liberty Half Dollar was minted from 1916 to 1947, a period that reflected some of the most tumultuous decades in U.S. history. The coin also represented one of the first acts of new U.S. Mint Director Robert W. Wooley, who in 1915 requested that the Commission of Fine Arts conduct a competition to find a designer for updated coinage. Adolph Weinman’s design was selected, and a new look was approved--one that is considered to be among the most beautiful in US coins. Since 1986, a modification of Weinman’s obverse design has been used for the American Silver Eagle, and the half dollar was issued in gold in 2016 to honor its centennial.
Take home a century of numismatic beauty! The 1916-P Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollar comes graded by PCGS in Mint State-64 (MS64) condition, and the 2016-W Gold Walking Liberty comes graded by PCGS in near-perfect Specimen-69 (SP69) condition, certified as First Strike (FS).
