The Last of the Morgan Silver Dollars

Facing lower-than-expected demand and a dwindling supply of silver bullion, the United States Mint shut down production of Morgan Silver Dollars in 1904. But in 1921, to replenish supplies after victory in World War I, the U.S. Mint fired up silver dollar production once again. The plan was to transition to the Peace Dollar, but they needed to get tens of millions of silver dollars out fast. So, for one year only, the Morgan returned!

Key-Date Morgans From The Famous San Francisco Mint

As the last-ever release in the immensely popular Morgan Silver Dollar series, these 1921-dated specimens are an absolute key-date, must-have addition for any U.S. silver dollar collection. And the coins available here all hail from the famous San Francisco Mint — one of just three U.S. Mint branches to strike the final-year Morgan! Not only are “firsts” and “lasts” always coveted by collectors, but Morgans struck at the San Francisco Mint are continuously in demand due to the mint’s well-deserved reputation for producing some of the finest-struck Morgans in the entire series.

Nice, About Uncirculated Condition

Each coin comes struck in 90% fine silver and will come in nice About Uncirculated (AU) condition. This distinction means that while your Morgan circulated, it still features almost all of its original mint luster. Though the original mintage of this coin was nearly 21.7 million, many have since been melted down for their precious metal content. Don’t miss this must-have Morgan.

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • AMERICA’S MOST POPULAR COIN – The Morgan Silver Dollar — so named for its designer, U.S. Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan — has stood the test of time. Struck from 1878-1904 and again in 1921, it was the coin of America’s “Wild West” and jingled in the coin purses of gamblers, gunfighters, soldiers and dance hall girls.
  • BIG SILVER COINS – Struck in 26.73 grams of 90% silver, the Morgan Silver Dollar is a big coin 38.1 mm in diameter. When this coin was plunked down on a counter, its weight meant real money, pure and simple.
  • CLASSIC DESIGNS – Morgan’s historic design depicts a profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle with outstretched wings. The model used for Liberty was Miss Anna Williams of Philadelphia, who Morgan declared to have the most perfect feminine profile he had ever seen.
  • MORGAN FROM THE “GRANITE LADY” – This coin was struck at the Old United States Mint in San Francisco, where many collectors deem the finest Morgans in the series were struck. Affectionately known as “The Granite Lady” for is massive two-story structure built out of granite to handle the heavy minting equipment, it was the only financial institution left standing and still in operation following the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. It was replaced in 1937 by the current San Francisco Mint facilities and has since been designated as a National Historic Landmark.
  • ABOUT UNCIRCULATED CONDITION – Your 1921-S Morgan Silver Dollar will come in nice About Uncirculated (AU) condition.
  • THE CASE OF THE DISAPPEARING MORGAN – Despite millions of Morgan Silver Dollars being struck from 1878-1921, most were lost in circulation or melted down in mass silver meltings. In fact, coin experts believe that only 15% of all Morgans ever struck remain in existence today!

The total amount of Morgan Silver Dollars has seen significant evaporation into both collections and the melting pot. Once our supply of these key-date, last-year-of-issue 1921-S Morgans disappears, it might be gone for good. Don’t wait any longer to secure yours now!
