1924 $20 Gold Saint-Gaudens NGC MS64

This gorgeous $20 Gold Saint-Gaudens 'Double Eagle' coin was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1924, right in the middle of the 'Roaring Twenties'! The coin grades Mint State-64 (MS64) and is certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC).

The 1920s were indeed a wild time. The economy was booming, prohibition was being flouted on every turn, and the public was largely ignoring the nation's premier gold coin, the $20 Double Eagle designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Flappers didn't carry gold, they wore it!

As a result, most of the mintage of $20 Saints from 1924 sat in bags at banks for a decade. Then, fate intervened to make this date a lot scarcer that it might otherwise have been. The government recalled all gold coins from public ownership in 1933, and as most of the 1924-dated coins were at hand stored in banks, they were mostly turned in and later melted.

As a result, high-grade 1924 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold coins can be hard to find today. This example graded Mint State 64 (MS64) by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). Sealed in its acrylic holder for protection, it makes a great addition to you collection as a single coin or as part of your 12-piece U.S. Mint Gold Coin Type set.
