Low-Mintage 1924 Peace Silver Dollars From The Mother Mint

Boasting one of America’s most classic designs, America’s Peace Silver Dollar series was the nation’s last silver dollars struck for circulation in 90% silver. These two Peace Dollars are from 1924 and 1925—years which saw mintages fall off a cliff from previous years, going from 84.3 million and 56.6 million coins in 1922 and 1923, to just 13.5 million and 11.8 million in 1924 and 1925.

The Designer Of America’s Fabled Peace Dollar

The Peace Silver Dollar was designed by 33-year-old Italian-American sculptor Anthony De Francisci, who used his wife, Teresa Cafarelli, as his model for Lady Liberty. The design presents Lady Liberty wearing a crown of rays on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle holding the olive branches of peace, rather than the typical olive branches and arrows of war. The coin’s original reverse showed an eagle breaking a sword to symbolize disarmament at the end of the war. Mint officials were concerned this depiction would signify defeat and had the sword removed. The result was a beautiful symbol of peace for the ages!

Peace Dollars From The Mother Mint

Due to heavy usage during the Great Depression and numerous melts in the years that followed, the number of remaining coins is significantly less than when they were issued. So, if you were lucky enough to have a low-mintage 1924 Peace Dollar back then, it’s likely you would have spent it on bread, milk, or gas. They bought a lot. And they were used over and over again until they wore out. Each coin available here comes in beautiful About Uncirculated (AU) condition with lots of original mint luster. Three times fewer Peace Dollars were struck for circulation than their older silver sibling, the Morgan. But, as the heir to the throne, this 1924-P Silver Dollar is one that no Morgan collection should be without! Act now! These won’t last!

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • A BEAUTIFUL COIN RICH IN SYMBOLISM – The Peace Dollar is a true American symbol of peace. Fascinated by the Statue of Liberty, designer Anthony De Francisci’s obverse presents Lady Liberty wearing a crown of rays, like that on the Statue of Liberty. The reverse features an eagle holding the olive branches of peace, rather than the typical olive branches and arrows of war.
  • STRUCK IN GLEAMING SILVER – These Peace Silver Dollars were struck by the U.S. Mint in 26.73 grams of highly pure 90% fine silver and measure 38.1 mm in diameter.
  • LEGAL-TENDER U.S. COINAGE – These coins were $1 legal tender in the United States and circulated widely during the Roaring ’20s and Depression-era ’30s.
  • ABOUT UNCIRCULATED CONDITION – Your 1924-P Peace Silver Dollar will come in beautiful About Uncirculated (AU) condition.
  • LOW-MINTAGE 1924 PEACE DOLLARS – These Peace Dollars are from 1924—a year which saw much lower mintages than previous years, dropping from 84.3 million and 56.6 million coins in 1922 and 1923, to just 13.5 million in 1924.
  • THE CASE OF THE DISAPPEARING PEACE DOLLAR – Despite millions of Peace Silver Dollars being struck from 1921 to 1935, most were lost in circulation or melted down in mass silver meltings. In fact, coin experts believe that only 16% of all Peace Dollars remain in existence today!
