1927-P Peace Dollar PCGS MS65
The First, But Not the Last, Sub-Million Mintage Year for Philadelphia Peace Dollars!
When the U.S. Mint ditched the initial high-relief style for the Peace Dollar and switched to a normal-relief style in 1922, everything was set for a production bonanza! Tens of millions of Peace Dollars flew out of the Philadelphia mint in 1922 and 1923. Then, production slowed to roughly about 10 million each in 1924 and 1925. In 1926, a plummet in production reduced that year’s mintage to almost two million - leading to the first sub-million year for Peace Dollars at the Philadelphia mint in 1927. According to U.S. mint statistics, only 848,000 Philadelphia Peace Dollars were produced that year -- the second-lowest annual Philadelphia Peace Dollar mintage ever. Close to a century later, the number of those that survived has been dramatically reduced. Everything from circulation use to improper storage to just plain melting for bullion has caused the majority of Peace Dollars to disappear, leaving only about 16% of originals behind today according to experts!
So, when our buyers found some of these Philadelphia Peace Dollars from 1927, we jumped at the chance! Even better, the ones we’ve found are in uncirculated condition. Each is graded Mint State-65 by Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). Anthony de Francisci’s original designs are depicted in excellent detail on both sides with a full mint luster that still remains. In addition, your Peace Dollar will come to you already sonically sealed in a clear acrylic holder, providing excellent protection without obscuring any of the artistry that make Peace Dollars beloved collectibles. As we wrote earlier, supplies are already very tight. When Peace Dollars like this show up on the radar of collectors, they can disappear fast. Take the opportunity now to add to your collection while you can!
