1929 Series $5 Federal Reserve Bank Currency Note VF
First Small-Scale Federal Reserve Note
Issued just as the United States began plummeting into the Great Depression, this note was the first of the new, smaller-sized Federal Reserve Notes. It features Abraham Lincoln just like our modern-day $5 notes, along with the signature brown seal. Money was hard to come by in those days, and notes like this circulated heavily, often being completely worn out or destroyed. Finding one in lightly circulated condition is extremely exciting, as they can be difficult to locate. Own a piece of U.S. history in Very Fine (VF) condition! Issuing Federal Reserve Bank varies.
- FIRST SMALL-SIZED FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE – The 1929 Series $5 Federal Reserve Bank Note was part of the 1929-series of notes and was the first series of notes issued in the new smaller size. The 1915/1918 “Large Size” notes measured 7-3/8” x 3-1/8” and the new 1929 series measured 6-1/8” x 2-5/8”.
- NEW DESIGN OF FOR NEW SERIES – The design on these new “small-size” notes is similar to the previous series in that President Abraham Lincoln is show, but unlike the old series where hue on the left side, he assumes his now-familiar position in the center of the note. The note’s reverse was changed from vignettes of Columbus and pilgrims to the Lincoln memorial.
- LEGAL TENDER NOTE FORM THE GREAT Depression – Each 1929 Series $5 Federal Reserve Bank Note was issued just as America was plummeting into the Great Depression. During that era, $5 represented a day’s wages if you were fortunate to have a good-playing full-time job.
- NICE LIGHTLY CIRCULATED CONDITION – Your 1929 Series $5 Federal Reserve Bank Note comes in Lightly Circulated condition with all of its original detail still highly visible. This is remarkable considering that notes like this saw heavy circulation, and most were worn out and later destroyed.
