1930 Chinese 10 CGU Gold Certificate Uncirculated
Scarce American-Made Chinese Gold Certificates
In these days of tariffs and trade wars, it doesn’t seem possible that China would import anything the United States has to offer. But during the 1930s and ’40s, China made use of paper currency that was actually printed in America!
Between 1930 and 1948, the Central Bank of China used a currency known as a customs gold units (CGU) that was printed by the American Banknote Company in the United States. In this offering you can secure a 10 CGU certificate from 1930, the first-year these notes were circulated. The designs on this note are significant as well. On the front you can see a portrait of Sun Yat-sen, a man known as the “Father of Modern China.” Philosopher, physician, and politician, Sun was instrumental in overthrowing the Qing dynasty and served as the first provisional president of the Republic of China. The note’s reverse displays a crisp vignette of the Central Bank of China.
These intriguing American-made Chinese notes have amazingly survived in Uncirculated condition for 90 years! We managed to uncover a small hoard of these certificate, but with their pristine condition they won’t last long. Hurry and secure one for your collection now.
