Silver Jubilee Crown Commemorates 25 Years of King George V

The grandfather of the late Queen Elizabeth II, King George V ruled the British Empire from the death of his father in 1910 until his own death nearly 26 years later. His reign saw the bloody battles of World War I as well as the break of Ireland from Great Britain. In 1935, this Silver Jubilee Crown was released to commemorate his 25th year on the throne.

The Rocking Horse Crown

Struck in 50% silver, it was nicknamed the "Rocking Horse" for King George's wooden-like steed in the portrayal on the reverse of the famous scene of St. George slaying a dragon. The coin's obverse features an uncrowned portrait of King George V and includes the words: GEORGIVS V. DG. BRITT: OMN: REX. FD. IND: IMP: BM, which translates to: "George the Fifth by the Grace of God King of all the Britains Defender of the Faith Emperor of India."
