Scarce Double-Struck Quarters

Each of these Washington Quarters carry a scarce and unique designation known as a Double Die Obverse (DDO) that can be seen on the “In God We Trust” motto just below George Washington’s chin. This unusual error occurred when the coin was struck twice but not in line creating a fuzzy double image of the motto. Struck in 1963 at the “Mother Mint” in Philadelphia, only a tiny fraction of the entire mintage of these 90% silver coins features this uncommon error.

Only A Tiny Fraction Of These Coins Exist

How tiny? According to the Numismatic Guaranty Company’s (NGC) current population report, just 3,532 of these 1963-P Washington Quarters have been submitted for grading. And of that small number, only 276 are considered to feature this FS-101 varieties as listed in the Cherrypickers’ Guide to Rare Die Varieties of United States Coins, an official Whitman guidebook written by Bill Fivaz and J.T. Stanton, hence the “FS” acronym. According to numismatic experts, unusual features like doubled or tripled dies, re-punched mintmarks, and overdates often drastically increase the value of a coin.

Here you can secure 1963-P Washington Quarter with an FS-101 that has been certified and graded by NGC as being in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-64 (MS64) condition. It will come sonically sealed in a museum-quality acrylic holder and encapsulated with a label that shows the Double Die Obverse designation.
