The Last Franklin Silver Half Dollar Proof
The Franklin Silver Half Dollar, the last half-dollar series to be struck in highly pure 90% fine silver, began in 1948 after the Walking Liberty Half Dollar was retired. The coin was unique because its profile of founding father Benjamin Franklin was as the time the only non-president to be featured on a U.S. circulating coin. The reverse design was equally unique because it showed the Liberty Bell as its main subject rather than an eagle. The series abruptly ended in 1963 after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy when the U.S. Mint decided to strike JFK's bust on the half-dollar as a tribute to the fallen president beginning in 1964.
One Of The Highest Graded And Finest Known 1963-P Franklins
In addition to the circulating coins, Franklins were struck in proof condition beginning in 1950. Here you can secure a last-year-of-issue 1963 Franklin Silver Half Dollar struck by the "Mother Mint" in Philadelphia in gorgeous Proof condition. Not only was this coin expertly crafted by the mint from hand-selected planchets, polished dies, and multiple strikes to produce beautifully frosted details rising over mirror-like fields, but it comes graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) as being in near-perfect Proof-69 (PF69) condition. This distinction means that this almost-flawless coin showcases an impressive full strike and indistinguishable imperfections–well above and beyond the quality of the vast majority of coins in the series! It's also tied for the highest graded and finest known 1963-P Franklin ever certified by NGC! Hurry! Quantities are severely limited.
