Issued to U.S. troops serving overseas during the Vietnam War, this $1 Series 681 Military Payment Certificate (MPC) was issued from August 11, 1969 to October 7, 1970. Unlike currency notes printed for circulation back home in the United States, MPC notes are printed in bright colors and feature interesting, inspirational vignettes. This note is particularly rousing as it displays a battle-hardened pilot on the obverse, and a quartet of F-100 Super Sabre fighter jets wearing Thunderbirds acrobatic team livery. This design has since become highly coveted by collectors, especially those who served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.
