1989 Proof-69 American Eagle Silver Dollar

America’s finest silver is displayed in all its glory with the 1989 American Eagle Silver Dollar. Every year savvy buyers stash these away. Each is struck in one ounce of 99.9% fine silver and graded in almost perfect Proof-69 condition. Grading service varies. Since 1986, the American Silver Eagle, produced by the United States Mint has been the official silver bullion coin of the United States. Despite silver values constantly changing, the demand for U.S. Silver Eagle coins has grown steadily over the decades and today is at an all-time high. Add one or a few to your collection today!

About the 1989 American Silver Eagle:
In 1989 the American Eagle Bullion Program, the Congressional Act which created the Silver Eagle coin, marked its fourth year. More than 5 million 1989 Silver Eagle bullion coins were struck—a mintage slightly higher than the previous year despite a dip in the price of silver.

The U.S. Mint also struck more proofs in 1989. The 1989 Proof Silver Eagle was produced at the San Francisco Mint and bears the "S" mint mark. Its arresting, distinctive cameo finish is achieved by striking a burnished blank multiple times, using a die whose elevated contours have been lightly sandblasted to add a "frosted" quality to the finished coin.

Because they carry a $1 face value, Silver American Eagles are often considered the modern-day silver dollar. Many collectors assemble a complete set by purchasing one coin from each year of issue—from 1986 through 2010.

You can purchase any 1989 Silver Eagle with confidence, as the Silver Eagle is the only silver bullion coin whose weight, content and purity are guaranteed by the U.S. Government. It's one of the safest, most convenient and liquid ways to add precious metal to your collection.

The overall average price of silver during 1989 was $5.51 per ounce.
