Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Smithsonian Institution

This 1996 Silver Dollar was struck to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Smithsonian Institution. It was established by an act of congress on August 10th, 1846, funded by a gift of gold sovereigns form Englishman John Smithson. The obverse shows the Smithsonian castle on the Mall in Washington DC. The reverse shows an allegorical goddess sitting on top of a globe. The incredibly small mintage of this commemorative Silver Dollar (only 31,320) makes it hard to find in the Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition offered here. It was struck at the Denver Mint in 26.73 grams of 90% silver. Order yours today!
