And with 2021 marking the debut of a new reverse design replacing John Mercanti’s iconic “Heraldic Eagle,” more attention then ever is being paid to back-dated coins like these!
About The 1997 American Silver Eagle:
The year 1997 was sparse for Silver American Eagles with a relatively small mintage of fewer than 4.3 million bullion coins struck. And, as the bullion version was reduced by the United States Mint, so, too, was the Proof variety trimmed with that year’s proof mintage of just 435,368 finishing as one of the lowest proof mintages ever. In addition, the 1997 Proof Silver Eagle was included in a new set offered by the U.S. Mint in 1997. As part of the launch of the new Platinum Eagle, the “Impressions of Liberty Set” included proof coins from the Gold, Silver and Platinum Eagle mintages. Only 5,000 sets were produced. Each 1997-P Silver Eagle Proof available here will come beautifully housed in a presentation box and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
Guaranteed Silver By The U.S. Government
Since 1986, the American Silver Eagle, produced by the U.S. Mint has been the official silver bullion coin of the United States. Despite silver values constantly changing, the demand for U.S. Silver Eagle coins has grown steadily over the decades and today is at an all-time high. No matter the size of the mintage, you can purchase American Silver Eagle coins with the assurance that they're backed by the United States Government. Silver Eagles are the only silver bullion coin certified by the U.S. Government for purity, content and weight. And as legal tender, they are eligible for investment in an Individual Retirement Account (IRA).
