The First Casualty of the American Revolution Recognized on a Coin
This coin was struck to honor the 275th anniversary of the birth of Crispus Attucks, the very first casualty of the American Revolution. In 1998, the U.S. Mint honored Attucks and all black Patriots of the American Revolution with this 90% Silver Dollar. The obverse, designed by John Mercanti, the 12th chief engraver of the U.S. Mint, features a portrait of Attucks.
