The Greatest Warrior Of Ancient Greece

When Homer wrote the Iliad in about 720 B.C., he introduced readers to the world of Achilles, a supremely handsome hero blessed with superhuman strength and courage. Homer described him as having inherited the strength of Zeus through his mother, Thetis, a sea nymph, and the granddaughter of Gaia. These genes allowed Achilles to become one of the strongest and almost undefeated warriors of the Trojan War. His exploits have also earned him a place here as part of the “Legendary Warriors” series!

Released on behalf of Niue, a small island nation in the South Pacific Ocean, this exciting collectible really brings the saga of Achilles to life! It depicts the famed Greek warrior before the walls of Troy armed with a helmet, greaves, spear, and shield. And, while this piece it is not a legal-tender coin, it was struck in a Troy ounce of highly pure 99.9% fine silver and comes in gleaming Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition with razor-sharp details that are crisp and rippling with intense action thanks to its unsurpassed level of detail!

The Hero of the Trojan War

The greatest warrior of ancient Greece, Achilles was extraordinarily strong, courageous, and loyal. His most significant battle was fought against Trojan Prince Hector, a confrontation between the two greatest warriors of the age, each representing their respective sides in the Trojan War Achilles eventually won the battle and tied Hector’s body to his chariot and dragged him through the dust back to his camp before later returning the body to the Trojans for a decent burial. Achilles did have one weakness, however, and was it ever a doozy! Like kryptonite to Superman, the one vulnerability for Achilles was his heel. According to Greek mythology, Achilles was made nearly invulnerable when his mother dunked him in the River Styx while he was still an infant. The problem was that she held him by the heels, which were not wetted, and remained the only parts of his anatomy that were vulnerable. Thus, during the last frenetic battle for Troy he was killed when Hector’s brother, Paris, shot Achilles with an arrow that struck him in the heel.
