Scarce $2 Denomination Legal-Tender Note
These U.S. Notes (also called Legal-Tender Notes) were issued by the U.S. Government. As stated on the reverse, they could be used for all public and private debts. They were not backed by gold or silver, making them formally authorized currency similar to the currency currently in circulation.
Try These "Bracelets" On For Size!
This $2 Note, from the third series of $2 Legal Tender Notes, dated 1875, was first printed in 1869. Its reverse was nicknamed "Bracelet" because it has a large "2" in the center and is surrounded by four different designs linked together that look like a bracelet. The front features a portrait of President Thomas Jefferson, along with a highly-detailed vignette of the Capitol Building as it looked back in 1875. If you look closely, you can see horse-drawn carriages along with men and women dressed in formal attire of the time.
Lightly Circulated Very Fine Condition
These Notes have a Friedberg (FR) number of 44. There are four Friedberg numbers for the 1875 $2 Legal Tender Notes. These have been authenticated by paper Money Guaranty (PMG), one of the top currency-grading services in the world, PMG, and graded as being in lightly circulated Very Fine-30 (VF30) condition. The PMG populations are all very small—only 164 combined regardless of grade for all four, while FR.44 has a total population of only 59. This $2 denomination, one of the first to be printed, has always been sought-after because it's uncommon today. We have only ONE available—so act now!
