America's Famous Bracelet Note

The intricate engraving, the bold red seal, and serial number create a fantastic image—you can't stop studying it! Its gorgeous design shows a portrait of Jefferson alongside an old vignette of the Capitol building as it appeared in the days before the United States entered the battlefields of the First World War. It even has horses and buggies travelling past! It's almost fitting that this would mark the end of the large-sized notes, as the first notes ever issued by the United States appeared during the Civil War as a way for the government to pay its debts. The reverse features a prominent fancy "2" surrounded by a "bracelet" of seals—a detail that has led many collectors to refer to it as the "bracelet note."

Most Of These Notes Were Worn Out And Destroyed By The Government

Most of these notes were worn out in circulation or were destroyed by the U.S. government long ago, which makes our limited quantity a real find. This note has a denomination of $2, something that has always caught the eye of collectors as it has never been seen as being as common as a $1 or $5 paper note, all of which circulated in America along with other types of currency in the early 20th Century. This type of paper money was printed with the words "legal tender" to assure the recipients that it was legitimate and that the U.S. government would fulfill its obligation to pay.

Nice Very Good Condition

Despite their beauty, these notes nevertheless had a low denomination and thus circulated heavily, and few still exist today. That makes this specimen graded in nice, collector-grade Very Good (VG) condition a real find!
