2012 China 5-oz Gold Panda Proof NGC PF69UCAM
Scarce 2012 Five-Ounce Gold Panda Proof Resurfaces
Proof Pandas are among the scarcest coins issued by China, and larger Proof Pandas like this 2012 Five-Ounce Gold Proof are the scarcest of them all. This example grades near perfect Proof-69 Ultra Cameo (PF69 UC) by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and is encapsulated in an acrylic holder with a special Panda logo.
The common Panda coin obverse features the Prayer Hall in the Temple of Heaven while the reverse depicts a mother panda with her cub, along with the denomination and specifications. The coin is accompanied by a numbered mint certificate of authenticity, which guarantees the fineness and quality. The mint presentation case is included as part of the coin’s provenance.
This five-ounce issue is extremely important to collectors. Only 5,000 of these 2012 Five Ounce Gold Proofs were minted, with fewer than 50 graded PF69 by NGC. The chance of having a rare coin like this offered again may not happen! Collectors everywhere are scrambling to purchase modern issue Chinese coins. Many rare examples are being taken off the market and many more are finding their way back into China. There is no doubt the market is on fire right now and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. There is simply not enough supply of many low mintage Chinese gold coins to feed the overwhelming demand.
