We're Not Kidding -- This Bombay Hook 5-oz Silver Coin is For the Birds!

In 1679, Peter Bayard of New York purchased an area of marshland from Mechacksett, the Chief of the Kahansink Indians. That land was originally known as "Canaresse," which translates to "Shaggy Bushes" or "Thicket". Eventually, the land was renamed "Bompies Hoeck" -- Dutch for "Little-Tree Point." Over the centuries, that moniker has evolved. Now, this collection of more than 16,000 acres of marsh is known as Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge. For countless animals, fish and birds, it's known by something else -- home!

Started in 1938 as a project of an African-American company of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), this refuge is a pristine staging area and rest stop for migratory shorebirds and waterfowl that travel the Atlantic Flyway. Here, wildlife of all kinds breed and thrive while visitors, volunteers and staff work to protect, study and enjoy its inhabitants. It's American wildlife conservation at its most gorgeous, and a perfect choice for Delaware's entry in the America the Beautiful Quarters™ Program. Now, you can bring home a five ounce silver edition of this coin from 2015. Struck in a weighty five ounces of 99.9% pure silver by the Philadelphia Mint, each coin has a massive diameter of three inches and thickness of over four millimeters, but still has a legal tender value of 25 cents!

One side features John Flanagan's restored 1932 portrait of George Washington, while the other side depicts two Blue Herons wading in the refuge's marshes. Incused edge lettering confirms that your coin is, indeed, ".999 fine silver 5.0 ounce."

Your 2015 5-oz Silver Bombay Hook Coin will also come with several additional features:

  • Your Bombay Hook Coin will be graded Specimen-70 (SP70) by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), a distinction that means your perfectly-graded coin will have ZERO imperfections -- showing all features and fields exactly as the engraver and mint intended!
  • Your coin will also be certified First Day of Issue (FDI) by NGC, meaning that it was among the first struck by the Philadelphia Mint and was certified within the first day of issue.
  • Your Bombay Hook Coin will be sonically sealed in an acrylic case with white display core -- giving you the best in protection while granting clear sightlines into every beautiful detail.

Combine this significant moment in American history along with the captivating artwork and attractive size of this coin and you can see why we don't think this will available for very long. Capture this monumental coin for your collection -- order yours today!
