The Newest Addition to the Smithsonian Institution’s Giant Panda Family!
Bei Bei the giant panda was born on August 22, 2015, and was given his name, which means "precious treasure" in Mandarin Chinese, by First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama and First Lady of the People’s Republic of China Pen Liyuan. The name is a compliment to his sister Bao Bao’s name, which also means "precious treasure."Struck in a full ounce of 99.9% pure gold, the first half of this wonderful set is Bei Bei’s first-ever Gold Proof, showing the panda cub enamored by his reflection in a pool of water. The second coin in this set, minted in five ounces of 99.9% pure gold, features the entire family -- Bei Bei, his older sister Bao Bao and their parents, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian -- as they romp together in a bamboo forest. It’s the first time ever that four pandas have been depicted together on a Gold Panda Proof!
Each proof comes graded by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as Proof-69 Ultra Cameo (PF69 UC) condition. Bring home these pandas today!
