2015 Isle of Man Postage Stamp Penny Black Proof
World’s First Postage Stamp Turns 175
On May 1, 1840, Great Britain introduced the world to postage stamps by issuing the Penny Black stamp. With a value of one penny and a portrait of young Queen Victoria, the world's first stamp was an instant hit with the public. It also marked one of the greatest advancements in the history of communication. This stamp was celebrated on a proof in 1990 for its 150th anniversary. Now, for its 175th anniversary this legal-tender 2015 One Crown Penny Black Proof has been released. Each is struck in 28.28 grams of copper-nickel and is layered in a pearl black finish specially created by Pobjoy for the Penny Black issue. In addition, the reverse shows an updated effigy to the 1990 version. The mintage is strictly limited to 50,000. Don’t pass this beauty by!
