2016 $100 Platinum Eagle Graded NGC Mint State-69 First Releases

The Platinum Eagle series began in 1997.  The $100 1-oz proof coin has been struck annually every year.  The Bullion version was struck every year from 1997-2008 but was not produced 2009-2013 and again in 2015.  This is only the second time in the last 8 years that bullion Platinum Eagles will be released again!

This example grades near-perfect Mint State-69 (MS69) by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and is also designated as a First Releases coin. These coins are those from the first thirty days of mint release. Many collectors believe they have sharper strikes and more dazzling luster than those released later.

Part of the allure of Platinum Eagles is the patriotic designs that the obverse and reverse feature.  Obverse: The strong face of the statue below the word "Liberty," with the year and "In God We Trust" to the side. "E Pluribus Unum" is engraved along Liberty's raised arm. Reverse: An American eagle with outstretched wings soaring in front of a sunrise with "United States of America" above. The weight, purity and $100 face value are also shown.

Each coin contains one-ounce of 99.95% pure platinum, a precious metal content guaranteed by the U.S. government and displayed right on the surface of the coin.
