In the late 19^th century, Dr. George F. Heath published a short leaflet called THE AMERICAN NUMISMATIST, that was meant to overcome his geographical isolation.  The response to that leaflet, the name of which was shortened later to THE NUMISMATIST, led to the creation of the American Numismatic Association, whose World’s Fair of Money was the inspiration for this coin.  Honoring the Royal Canadian Mint’s participation in the event, this coin features the same base designs as appear on the country’s famous silver bullion coin.  A realistically designed maple leaf, the iconic symbol of Canada that appears on its flag, is at the center.  To its lower left is a privy mark of the poppy, the state flower of California, where the Fair was held. Susanna Blunt’s right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II serves as the obverse design.  Blunt’s initials, “SB,” are inscribed on the Queen’s shoulder.  Along the rim are inscriptions of the date and face value, as well as the queen’s name and abbreviated Latin title.
