2016-W American Liberty Silver Medal NGC PF69 First Releases
American Artistry. American Skill. American Liberty.
When the $100 Gold American Liberty coin was released in 2015, the coin collecting world took fast notice. The first modern Liberty, as it was quickly called, was the product of the latest in technology - a richly detailed high-relief coin with immersive design. It was also the first $100 gold coin produced by the U.S.- the highest value yet. However, limited supply couldn’t keep up with demand, and the coins were quickly acquired by collectors worldwide.
As a second act to the rousing success of the first modern Liberty, the U.S. Mint has released the 2016 American Liberty Silver Medal. Containing the same high-relief artistic designs Justin Kunz created for the 2015 $100 Gold American Liberty coin, each medal is struck in one ounce of .999 silver on the same planchets used to strike American Silver Eagles. Lady Liberty literally rises from one side, her torch and flag in detailed relief, while the other side has the beloved bald eagle taking flight with the olive branch of peace clutched tightly. Minted at West Point and containing the "W" mintmark, this 2016 American Liberty Silver Medal has a grade of Proof-69 (PF69) by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and is sonically sealed in a protective acrylic holder for secure display.
This high-quality piece of numismatic history stands on its own as an exciting suggestion of designs to come. Or, if you were fortunate enough to obtain the original 2015 $100 Gold American Liberty, you have a unique opportunity to buy its progeny. However, your window of opportunity could be very small - only 12,500 of these medals will be released by the West Point Mint. In addition, a limit of two per mint (four total) will be in place. With the amount of collectors waiting for this release along with the relatively small amount of medals coming to market, we don’t expect them to stay in our vault for long. As Lady Liberty looks forward into the future, so does the craftsmanship and technology of our nation’s Mint – own this brilliant sign of things to come now!
