Honoring Our Nation’s Parks

In 2016, the United States Mint released a special National Parks Commemorative Half Dollar to mark the 100th anniversary of the National Parks Service. The coin features the NPS logo on the reverse, with an obverse showing a hiker experiencing the majesty of our nation’s wilderness as well as a small child discovering a frog. It’s a fantastic coin that celebrates America’s dedication to preserving wonderous natural areas and historic sites for future generations. Now you can not only secure that special coin — just 54,844 were ever struck — but a pair of extras that help put the coin’s significance in context.

A Fantastic Tribute to the Conservation President

In this offer we’ve assembled a fantastic set that matches one of these coins with a President Theodore Roosevelt medal struck by the U.S. Mint and a vintage 3-cent postage stamp featuring Roosevelt’s 22-room home, Sagamore Hill. The addition of Roosevelt is entirely appropriate. Considered to be the “conservation president,” Teddy Roosevelt loved our nation’s parks so much that he doubled the number of sites within the National Park system during his time as President from 1901 to 1909. And, thanks to the Antiquities Act of June 8, 1906, Roosevelt secured authority to proclaim historic landmarks, historic or prehistoric structures, and other objects of historic or scientific interest in federal ownership as national monuments.

Flawless High-Grade Condition

Each 2016-S National Parks Half Dollar available here was struck at the San Francisco Mint and comes graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation as being in flawless Proof-70 Ultra Cameo (PF70UC) condition, a distinction that means these perfectly-graded proofs have ZERO imperfections — showing all features and fields exactly as the engraver and mint intended. In addition, NGC has certified that these proofs are First Day of Issue (FDI) coins, meaning they were received by NGC or an NGC-approved depository by the release date or on the business day within 24 hours of the official release date. Last but not least, each coin also comes sonically sealed in an acrylic holder with a label signed by Elizabeth Jones, 11th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint. Appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1981, Elizabeth oversaw the creation and launch of America’s Silver Eagle series in 1986.

The Teddy Roosevelt medal comes certified by NGC with a Smithsonian Institution® Classics pedigree. The 3-cent postage stamp was released in 1953—the same year Roosevelt’s Sagamore Hill home in Oyster Bay, New York was opened to the public as a museum. Pay tribute to the National Parks Service and Teddy Roosevelt with this 2016-S National Parks Half Dollar and the accompanying Roosevelt medal and stamp. Order yours today!
