These Gold Koala Proofs Celebrate 10 Years in a Big Way!

But here we are 10 years later, and the series has enjoyed incredible success over the past decade, selling out of the maximum mintage each and every year. To honor this incredible achievement, Perth Mint is celebrating with the release of this first-ever high relief Two-Ounce Gold Koala Proof, struck in two full ounces of 99.99% pure gold and bearing a legal-tender value of $200 Australian.

As with previous releases, this Koala Proof features a one-year-only design. For 2017, the koala is shown sitting beside the trunk of a gum tree, the Australian countryside stretching out behind him. But unlike every two-ounce gold proof release before it, this 2017 Koala Proof comes struck in incredible high relief, allowing the design to stand even higher off of the shimmering field behind it for an unparalleled level of crisp, frosty detail.

Of course, collectors will want to add this world’s first Two-Ounce Gold Koala High Relief Proof to their private collections in graded collector condition. To that end, we’ve managed to secure the only examples of this historic release to be in near-perfect Proof-69 Ultra Cameo (PF69 UC) condition graded by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and certified as First Day of Issue.
